Day and Night

Yesterday we met a new friend from the United States, his name is John( on the right on above picture ) and he is from Pennsylvania.  He is out here training at Sityodtong with us, one of those things that I always like about traveling, never know who you are going to meet.

We took John out around Pattaya and had dinner at Savoey, the awesome seafood place and then headed over to Fairtex Thepprasit Stadium for some great Muay Thai fights.  The last fight of the night was definitely the best!

Woke up today after pulling double duty training yesterday, got in a nice morning run with Roy, Remy and Rick.  Dragged our butts into the gym to hit some pads and do some bag work here at Sityodtong in Pattaya.

After some breakfast/lunch, sadly not at Senora Mosca’s, we decided to go train out at Fairtex since it wasn’t far away.  To be honest I didn’t expect much from the training at Fairtex here in Pattaya, as it usually is full of a bunch of tourists looking for a workout and a resort to stay at.  Plus you get to watch and train next to Muay Thai legends such as Naruepol, Yodsaenklai and Kaew Fairtex.  Well, my expectations were exceeded once I started hitting the pads, the trainer thought I was just one of the tourists looking to get a workout.  I don’t think he expected to have to actually “work” pads with me.  Definitely felt very good to be hitting good pads and being fed combinations correctly.
After pad work, I wanted to get in some clinching and Remy said he would help out since Roy didn’t feel like clinching.  Next thing you know Remy is telling me to hurry up and get in the ring because he got some of the trainers to get in on clinching with us.  I asked Remy, “who is the trainer?” and he just responded, “I don’t know but he looks crazy”.  Roy ended up getting in on the clinching session, and to my surprise we were able to hold our own against the trainers.  We even got the attention of Yodsainklai and Naruepol during our session.  I felt like a little kid in a candy store when I saw them watching us.

Turns out Big Yak( Yodsaenklai’s trainer ) was a trainer at Kru Nokweed’s gym and he was very welcoming to us while we were there.  He even took the time to take a picture of us with the fighters! Just made this trip exceed my expectations tenfold! :)

Left to right: Soroyan, Naruepol Fairtex, Yodsaenklai Fairtex, Rick, Remy, Shawn, Kaew Fairtex, Julius, Me and Big Yak.( go HERE for more info on the fighters )
And here I am now, not quite sure what time it is, but I’m heading to bed now!  I’ll let the rest of these pictures do the talking for me.

Oh man, this sounds like so much fun…. I’d love to do some clinching with those guys….. Can u put one of them in your suitcase and bring home

  3. Emile says:

So Jon , was Nokweed right? Were 9 yo thai kids able to throw you?

  4. Jon says:

Emile, not yet haha those guys had to have been atleast mid-20’s and they were having a hard time with me. They lost composure and started playing dirty…..I actually got an eye infection from one of them thumbing me repeatedly…

  5. emile says:

cool … didn’t think so. I bet they didn’t expect that you guys know how to clinch, so they got frustrated that it was not so easy to dominate you ;)

    stay safe
